The distribution of the soft soil in the Quanzhou Bay is affected by the substance source, landform, physiognomy and hydrodynamic environment. The thickness of the soft soil dwindles away from the inside bay to the outside bay and is thickened inch by inch from the riverway and sea-route to the seashore. The soft soil has the engineering characteristics of the high moisture content, high porosity, high compression, high sensitivity, weak permeability and low shear strength. On the engineering construction, it is often dealt with by the strengthening techniques such as the packing silt and filling method, the preloading method and the soil-cement paddling process.
