During the third phase of Chang’e Program, China will conduct the lunar sample return mission, which would collect the newest lunar samples after Apollo and Luna missions. Lunar sample curation will be of great concern for the Chinese lunar mission engineers as well as lunar scientists. The main goal of curating lunar samples is to preserve their scientific value and keep sample contamination and alteration to a minimum. Here we review the methods and experience of Apollo lunar sample curation in the following four sections: introduction of lunar sample laboratory, preliminary lunar sample processing, preliminary lunar sample examination, and lunar sample curating.
