///The Kongdian Formation is the oldest geological unit of the Paleogene System. Well Kong 1 of the Huanghua district, Hebei Province is denoted as its type locality, where complete section of the formation has been studied. It measures more than 2 500m in thickness, and can be subdivided into three members. The formation is in unconformable contact with the underlying Mesozoic deposits and the overlying Shahejie Formation. On the lithological features of the Kongdian Formation, three types can be recognized. In addition to the normal sediments, alluvial fan deposits and slope washes are recognized. From a tectonic point of view, the Kongdian Formation in the Bohai area can be referred to two types. The Kongdian Formation is a complete set of oil producing and oil capturing beds in itself.
